Year 3's Diary

A warm welcome to Year 3. Our team this year includes Miss Latham, Mr Nettleship and Mrs Neville. We are all looking forward to a fantastic year.

Welcome Back!

Hannah Smith - Monday, September 04, 2017

Welcome back to a new year at Ecclesfield! As you enter into Year 3, we hope you will be amazed at the fantastic learning we have on offer.

Our first topic is 'Who were the Ancient Egyptians?' During this topic we will be learning all about where Egypt is, what it is like now and what it was like in the past. We have organised a fun filled educational visit to Western park Museum in October where Egypt of the past will come to life!

During our English learning, we will be reading a class book called 'Egyptian Cinderella' ..... Can you think what story this might be based on? We will also be writing instructions on the gruesome mummification process and creating our own pop up book with funky pop ups which bring the process to life!

In maths, we will start with focusing on the basics of counting and knowledge of number. We will be moving onto addition and subtraction, learning new methods which make these calculations quick and easy. At home, please continue to learn your times tables (2,5, 10, 3 and 4) and ensure your mental addition and subtraction is up to scratch.

Homework: As last year, we will be setting homework at the beginning of the term. This will include reading (remember at least 4 times a week please!), spellings, maths and topic. If you are unsure of anything, please ask your class teacher.

Please ensure you have your PE kits in school every day. We will be going outside this half term so make sure you have suitable clothing.

Mr Nettleship/Mrs Travers' PE days: Tuesday and Friday

Mr Wells' PE days: Tuesday and Thursday

Don't forget reading mornings are Monday and Wednesday's, please come through the entrance with your child at 8.40 - we look forward to seeing you there!
