Year 6's Diary

For those of you that don’t know the team in Y6, we have the class teachers Mrs Hill, Miss Naylor and Miss Smith plus our teaching assistant Mrs Shepherd. As we enter the new year we are building up to the SATS in May whilst continuing to explore themes from around the world in our varied topic lessons.

Old Quarrels and Great Conflicts

Ecclesfield Teachers - Wednesday, November 01, 2017

As Autumn really sets in, Year 6 will focus on one of the biggest conflicts of all time, The Great War (1914-1918). We will investigate what life was like before the war and what changed for this great battle between the nations of Europe to take place. It will be interesting to see life through both a soldier's eyes on the front line and through those of a child's back in Britain. During the first week, we will think about Remembrance Day and why poppies are used as a mark of respect for the fallen. Before Christmas our classes will also visit Ecclesfield cenotaph to see how the lives of those closest to us were affected.

Alongside this topic, we will read Warhorse by Michael Morpurgo, thus seeing the throws of war through anothers eyes and perspective. This will link to our literacy writing, where we will write reports, stories and recounts about The First World War.

In science, electricity is out topic for this year. We will investigate how this new form of energy was first discovered and it's practical uses. Circuits will also be built and changes made to see how different components affect bulbs, motors and buzzers.

As we move towards Christmas there are many events to look forward to including our visit to Crucial Crew, the quality merchandise sale, Christmas concert and trip to the Lyceum to see Mother Goose.

Y6H PE will be on Monday and Wednesday and Y6S on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. However please make sure your kit is in school everyday.

Please ask us if you have any questions, we're more than happy to help!
