Year 6's Diary

For those of you that don’t know the team in Y6, we have the class teachers Mrs Hill, Mr Steel and Mrs Hancox plus our teaching assistants Mrs Shepherd and Mrs Sharpe. As we enter the new year we are building up to the SATS in May whilst continuing to explore themes from around the world in our varied topic lessons.

Who were the Mayans?

Ecclesfield Teachers - Thursday, December 28, 2017

As we enter 2018 our new topic will be the ancient civilization of the Mayans. We will investigate the culture, clothing, food and pastimes of the Mayans and discover how their inventions are still used today. Year 6 will travel to the Mayans homeland of Mesoamerica and see how it differs from modern-day Mexico.

In Science, the year group will answer the question, 'How does our body work?' as we look at the heart, lungs, circulation and respiratory system. We will also link in investigations about lung capacity and heart structure.

In literacy we will uses both of these topics for a source of inspiration. Explanations about the heart will be written alongside reports about Mayan culture. We will also use digital media to write stories, instructions and letters. Moving into January our maths topics will include, ration and proportion, Algebra and measure. Alongside these the year group will continue to practise both reasoning and arithmetic questions.

Towards the end of January, our SATs booster sessions will be commencing on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. As well as this we would love your child to be reading at home as much as possible!

PE will be on Wednesdays and Fridays for Y6S and Thursday and Friday for Y6H, however please make sure your kit is in school everyday.

Happy New Year!
