Hello from the Year 1 Team. The class teachers are Miss Fidler and Miss Nelson, and our teaching assistants are Mrs Sawyer and Miss Coleman.

 

We follow the National Curriculum and promote a love of learning and provide exciting opportunities for hands on learning.  We love to learn and have created a happy, relaxed and stimulating environment both inside and outside the classroom.

 

In Year 1 we love to read and it makes up a large part of our day. We love hearing about what the children are reading at home and enjoy sharing recommendations from our friends. Please ensure reading books and diaries are brought into school everyday as we often spend time reading them in school.  Reading books will be changed every Friday so please ensure that both decodable and sharer books are brought into school on a Friday to be changed. 

 

Home learning will be given out to children each Friday, please ensure children return their home learning on Thursday. The children have their own home learning books to complete spellings. 

 

In Year 1 children will participate in PE twice a week. Please ensure that children are sent to school in their PE kit on the correct days:

Y1N: Wednesday and Friday 

Y1F: Tuesday and Wednesday 

 

We cover a wide range of topics in Year 1 including; ‘Where do we live?’, ‘Schools in the past’ and ‘Where does our food come from?’. We would love to see any home learning about these topics. There is a big focus on Phonics in Year 1 due to the Phonics Screening Check that takes place in June, but we have lots of exciting things planned for your children.
