Autumn 2 in Year 1

Monday 01 Nov 2021 07:55am

Welcome back to our second half term in Year One. What an exciting 7 weeks we have lined up for you!

This half term being the run up to Christmas will involve lots of fun, celebratory activities including Christmas spellings and learning the Christmas story!

For our Maths lessons we will be continuing our place value learning and expanding our knowledge on numbers to 20, as well as applying our addition and subtraction knowledge to these larger values. Within writing, we will use a range of texts as our stimuli to innovate some narratives, poems, instructions and character descriptions. As always, we will be encouraging our 5 star sentences and use of challenging adjectives.

As it is the second part of the term, we will be continuing many of our units of work, such as Computing, Art and DT. Children will have a more in depth History focus on how buildings in our local area have changed over time and using their Geography studies to support this understanding. For a more in depth look at our learning for the next few weeks, take a look at our Curriculum Information or Long Term Plan.

Our PE days will remain Tuesday & Wednesday (please ensure children are ready in their PE kits each day, hair tied back and earrings removed). Similarly, spellings will be released Friday to be tested on the following week (all spellings will contain Phonic sounds learnt that week) and Reading books given out Monday and due back Thursday. Many thanks for those reading so regularly at home – it is so beneficial for your child!

As always, any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to get in touch and thank you in advance for your support during an exciting half term!
