Hi everyone and welcome back!
Well done for a great half term Y6! We can’t wait to carry on with some exciting new learning this half term too!
This term we will continue with our class book, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - John Boyne. We have really enjoyed this fantastic book and will continue to use it to help the children develop their reading and writing skills. This will aid our reading lessons where we will be answering questions about the characters and looking into background information to further support our learning. We will continue to answer different types of reading questions including retrieval, inference, summarising, sequencing and so on.
You can further your children’s reading learning at home by ensuring that when they are reading, they are doing so with intonation and fluency. To support their comprehension, try to ask them questions about what it is they have just read.
In our writing lessons this term we are going to focus on writing for different purposes. We will start with an explanation text where we will put emphasis on writing to inform the reader. Our Explanation text will provide guidance for the other children in school from a year 6 child’s perspective.
Our Maths learning will start with calculating and finding the volume. We will focus on answering reasoning and problem-solving questions surrounding them. As well as this, we will move onto algebra where will use simple formulae, describe number sequences using letters and symbols and find ‘unknowns’ in equations.
Throughout this term we will also be revising previous learning from during the year in preparation for SATs in week four.
Again, just like last half term, there are many ways to help your child at home. It is so important for your child to read 4 times a week for a minimum of 20 minutes each time! Timestable Rockstars and Freckle are great – they will help your child consolidate learning that they have done in school. Also, each week on google classrooms, we will continue to set homework.
