Welcome to Year 6

Tuesday 03 Aug 2021 12:31pm

Hi everyone! Welcome to Y6!

This year, the Y6 team will be Mrs Pulfrey, Mrs Kirman, Miss Naylor, Miss Whittaker and Mrs Francis. We can’t wait to welcome you all back after the summer and we hope you all had a lovely rest!

We are really lookin forward to getting stuck into some great subjects and units this half term! Our class book will be Holes and we will explore that within not only our reading lessons but our writing lessons too, as we will link writing to this book a lot of the time. In reading, we will ensure children are developing their reading fluency alongside targeting retrieval and inference style questions. In writing, a variety of sentence structures is so important to keep the reader entertained so we will look at how to include fronted adverbials and subordinate clauses into our writing. In maths, we will be working on the four operations as well as place value objectives. Our first geography unit is America (the children already did some brilliant fact files about American landmarks during our transition), and in science we will answer the question ‘How do our bodies work?’.

PE days are Wednesday and Friday for both Y6PK and Y6N.

There are many ways to help your child at home. First of all, it is so important for your child to read 4 times a week minimum for 20 minutes each time! Please also encourage your child to go on Timestable Rockstars and Mathletics. They should also complete the weekly homework and practise their spellings. Homework and spellings will go on google classrooms each week.

We hope that you are all ready to work hard in September, and we’re excited to get started!
