Ecclesfield Primary School

Foundation 2

A very warm welcome to Ecclesfield and your child’s first year of school! We are very excited to get to know you properly and for all of the exciting things we have planned. We hope you are looking forward to starting school too!

The staff in the unit are:

Miss Leach and Miss Pilling  (Class Teachers)

Mrs Ward and Mrs Micklethwaite (Teaching assistants)

Our topic this term is ‘I wonder…who is special’. We will spend lots of time getting to know each other, building relationships and talking about our families. We will soon be asking for some photos of your child and their family to add to our classroom family tree.

We will start our daily phonics looking at phase 2 sounds to help us begin our reading and writing journey. We will also start learning new harder to read and spell words. Your child will soon be given a phonics pack to help you practice at home too!

In maths, we will be exploring, securing and deepening our understanding of numbers 1-3. We will be using language to compare, count and reason with number, talking about maths and what we notice.

We will be launching Tapestry with you for you to see what your children are enjoying in school; a letter will be sent out to you with further details soon.

As always, we endeavour to give your child the best possible start to their school life at Ecclesfield Primary School.  Your child has already been allocated a starting group. After approx. 3/4 weeks of the Autumn Term we will then put the children into either Lions or Tigers class. However, the classes will remain fluid throughout the year to ensure that all of the children are settled in their respective classes and are having a positive experience of school.

Staff will discuss with you on an individual basis if they feel that your child would be more settled in the other class. This may happen on more than one occasion during the year.

 Reminders:

  • Your child needs to bring their book bag to school every day. A letter will be sent out shortly inviting you to a Phonics, Reading and Writing workshop with your child’s class teacher. Please look out for this! We will support you with home reading and update you with important information about book changes during this workshop.
  • Each week your child will receive home learning, this will need to be completed and returned to school the following week.
  • Your child needs a waterproof coat and a water bottle in school everyday.
  • Please make sure all your child’s belongings are clearly labelled with their name to avoid personal belongings becoming lost.

Thank you for your support; we can’t wait to be a part of your child’s learning journey this year!

Any questions at any time, please just ask
